While attending graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin’s department of Radio-TV-Film, I entered a course in Documentary Film Production. While the bulk of my focus in grad school was oriented around media theory and cultural studies, I always loved media production and worked to take advantage of a few of the available courses focused in that “hands-on” work.
This short documentary was the end result of that semester’s work and is the first “real” video piece I ever created (with a HUGE nod to my project and production partner Rachel Proctor-May). It tells the story of Evan Voyles, an Austin-based artist and sign builder as he designs and constructs a new (though also old) neon sign for his wife’s retail business.
